Jewish Wedding in Asturias – Spain

In the month of July, I had the pleasure of celebrating an emotional interfaith mixed wedding, according to the Jewish liturgy, of a lovely couple.

We had several online meetings to talk about all the details, their wishes and illusions about the ceremony.

The emotional and unforgettable Jewish wedding took place in Asturias, in an Asturian “llagar”.

A “llagar” is the name given to the farms where apple tree plantations are developed and cider is made.

They are very interesting places to visit and learn about everything related to Asturian cider.

Also, we could say that they are one of the most characteristic manifestations of the culture of Asturias.

In addition, the remarkable thing about this wedding is that it was probably the first Jewish, interreligious wedding held in this special location.

Trabanco Sariego

Trabanco Sariego is located in the heart of the Cider Shire, in the middle of nature and only 30 minutes from Gijón.

It is a cider production area of more than 11,000 square meters.

And in its indoor space, you will enjoy your wedding day among imposing oak and chestnut barrels of more than fifty years old, full of cider.

Symbols of the Jewish Wedding

It was a very emotional celebration and the bride and groom enjoyed an unforgettable Jewish wedding, full of symbolism.

Five symbols form the essence of an exciting Jewish wedding.

The first is the Chuppa which symbolizes the couple’s new home and divine protection.

It also recalls the tent of Abraham, known for his open welcome and generosity.

The second symbol at a Jewish wedding is wine, which represents joy, happiness and abundance.

Then, we have the ketubbah, the marriage contract signed on the wedding day.

The fourth is the wedding ring, as a symbol of beauty, protection and eternity.

Finally we have the breaking of the cup, as a reminder of the temple in Jerusalem.
