The Charm of Portugal: A Jewish Wedding Under the Chuppah for Liat and Ryan in Setubal

Some destinations whisper magic, and Portugal is undoubtedly one of them. Liat and Ryan’s wedding was not just a celebration of love, but a tribute to the serene and natural beauty of the Setubal region.

Under a radiant sun and surrounded by forested hills, this Jewish wedding in Portugal combined simple elegance with the richness of tradition, creating an unforgettable event for all present.

A Natural and Exclusive Setting: Hotel Casa Palmela in Setubal

The couple chose the spectacular Hotel Casa Palmela in Setubal, a region renowned for its pristine beauty and landscapes. This boutique hotel provided the ideal framework for a destination wedding that prioritized light, nature, and discreet luxury.

The ceremony took place on a wide natural lawn, flanked by mature trees, offering a perfect canvas for the Chuppah and the guests.

  • Simple Elegance: The décor remained minimalist and chic: black metal folding chairs with white cushions, perfectly aligned towards the Chuppah.

  • Chuppah Design: The structure was modern and clean, featuring black frames and a translucent white fabric that swayed gently in the breeze. Its simplicity allowed the surrounding nature to be the true backdrop.

  • Floral Details: Large arrangements of white and green hydrangeas in white vases framed the aisle, adding a fresh and vibrant touch.

The Ceremony: Jewish Tradition with Personalization

Liat and Ryan opted for a Jewish ceremony that was deeply personal and emotional.

Protocol and Symbols (Outside the Chuppah)

The ritual table, strategically placed outside the Chuppah, held key elements:

  • The Ketubah: The marriage contract was signed in an intimate moment the day before, a crucial step that precedes the public ceremony.

  • The Officiant’s Tallit: My own tallit (prayer shawl), a beautiful embroidered burgundy velvet, was laid out next to the Kiddush cup and wine, ready to be used during the blessings, symbolizing joy and prosperity.

  • Symbols of the Home: The embroidered pouch containing the glass for the breaking, with the inscription “Liat & Ryan forever,” highlighted the couple’s identity.

As a Jewish wedding officiant, it was an honor to guide them through the Seven Blessings (Sheva Brachot) and the reading of the Ketubah, ensuring the heart of tradition resonated with their unique love story.

The Importance of Details and the Human Team

A destination wedding in Portugal requires impeccable coordination. The team led by Catarina Amaral from VOWS PORTUGAL focused on precision, ensuring that the timing of the ceremony was respected under the Setubal sun.

The organization guaranteed that, despite the tradition and complexity of a destination wedding, the couple could focus solely on their love. Furthermore, the beauty of the day was masterfully captured by the film crew at Alex Movies, guaranteeing a memory that will last forever.

An Unforgettable Ending: Mazal Tov in Portugal

The moment of the kiss, framed by the simplicity of the Chuppah and the greenery of Setubal, was the perfect culmination. The sound of the breaking glass and the shout of “Mazal Tov” sealed not only the marriage but also a day that captured the essence of love, tradition, and Portuguese beauty.
